The Story
Over the rooftops of Aselgard, Lane runs, the watchman wheezing behind him. He skids to a halt by a chimney and looks up — the moon is turning red, seeping from its rim toward the core, slow and certain.
"Something's off... air reeks of rust." He breathes deep — the scent returns: cold iron, ash, lightning. Instinctively he presses a hand to his chest. Beneath his coat, the sword is warm. He holds it one breath longer.
The watchman's gong closes in. Lane leaps, landing on a ridge three spans away. The instant he lands, the birthmark on his wrist burns hot — its shape is identical to the serpent eye engraved on the sword's pommel.
