The Story
A clearing in the woods, at dawn. The great mirror stands in the mouth of the pit, and in its glass is a wolf's face — identical to Lane's, but older, more weathered, its eyes full of a hundred years of solitude. The voice from the glass is low and ancient: "Child. You have come at last." Lane's voice tightens: "Who are you?" "I am your forebear. The first werewolf. And the first soul sealed within these walls."
Lane asks: "You want me to set you free?" But the First Wolf answers: "I ask one thing of you." "What is it?" "Kill me." Lane freezes. The voice is terrifyingly calm: "The seal is fed by werewolf blood. So long as I draw breath, the seal holds and the Abyss stays caged. But my people — your people — stay prisoners forever."
Lane can hardly believe it: "So you want me to kill you... and shatter the seal?" The First Wolf shakes his head: "No. I want you to drive that sword and seal me into the Abyss. Let my soul plug its maw, for all eternity. That way — the seal breaks, your people walk free, and the Abyss never breathes again."
⚡ The Hook The First Wolf finishes, and the mirror begins to crack. His face fades from the glass, leaving one last line — "Three days. If you do not come for me in three days — the seal breaks on its own. Then the Abyss and the werewolves will rise together. Choose." Iris takes Lane's hand: "Lane..." He grips the sword hilt, a hundred years of old grudges churning in his green eyes: "Three days.
