The Ten Gods in BaZi (十神): How to Read Character & Drive in Your Chart

If your Day Master (日主) is the center of a BaZi chart, the Ten Gods (十神) are the spokes. They label every other character by its relationship to you — so a chart can be read as a story of authority, wealth, resourcefulness, expression and peers. This guide explains each one and how to spot them in a free chart.

As always in this tradition, treat them as descriptive themes for reflection, not a promise about your fate.

The Ten Gods Grouped

Everything is read "relative to your Day Master's element," giving groups of two:

🗂 Two gods per group × five groups = the Ten Gods. Their presence, strength and interaction are the backbone of most advanced BaZi reading.

Reading a Few Common Ones

• Direct Officer 正官 — values duty, structure and reputation; often associated with a sense of responsibility.
• Seven Killings 七杀 — intensity and drive; ambition that can push hard toward goals.
• Direct Wealth 正财 — steady, managed earning; a practical, grounded relationship with resources.
• Indirect Wealth 偏财 — opportunity-seeking, generosity, bigger-swing earning.
• Eating God 食神 — talent expressed warmly; often linked to skill, food, craft, ease.
• Resource 印 — learning and support; the mothering, nourishing influence in a chart.
