Lane turns to face the crack of the Abyss gate, gold and grey runes weaving along the blade. Iris screams from the mirror: "Lane! Come back! Come back and pay what you owe!" He doesn't turn. "I am paying it. With my life. That enough for you?" "No! It's not enough! You haven't paid everything you owe!" "Next lifetime then."
He drives the blade into the very center of the crack. Gold runes explode from the steel like a net, binding the rift shut. "By werewolf soul, guard the endless lock. By elven blood, seal the Abyss's gate. When both as one—" His body begins to glow, silver light welling from within and flooding the void.
Iris sobs against the glass: "You promised! You promised you'd come back!" Lane looks back one last time and smiles. "Iris. Those three coppers—" "What?" "Keep them." His body dissolves into a stream of silver light, pouring into the Abyss gate. The rift seals into a smooth mirror.
On the glass, one line remains: "Here lies a werewolf. He owed an elf three coppers. He said to keep them." Iris kneels before the mirror, tears striking the glass. It does not answer. She raises her head, amber eyes burning with hate.
She rises and pulls the sword from the mirror. The gold runes have turned blood-red. "This sword answers to me now. And elves — we do vengeance best." She lifts the blade, point to the sky.
